Surf Boat Rowers compete at North Coast Surf Boat series in Woolgoolga

Last weekend three surf boat crews travelled to Woolgoolga to compete in rounds 1 & 2 of the North Coast Surf Boat Series.  The rowers were greeted by a picture perfect day on Saturday & Sunday.  Seas were moderate and glassy.  It was a good weekend away and a great opportunity for some bonding. All crews had 5 races on both days.

In the A men’s division, Brendan Ratcliffe, Eli Gray, Jason Smith, Nathan Down & Brook Down (sweep) faced some stiff opposition on both days.  They recorded some first places but in some races they struggled to keep up with the other crews.  After two rounds of the series the A crew sit in 3rd place overall.

In the A women’s division, Terani Inoke, Bec Newton, Maddy Ruygrok & Jen Meister won the Saturday round coming away with 4 first placings and a second.  On Sunday they had a few technical issues but still recorded a first, two seconds and a third.  After two rounds the girls are leading the series pointscore.

In the Reserve women’s division, Gabi Leann, Gillian Fleming, Carolyn Smith, Tileah McGowan & Colin Martin recorded mostly wins on both days.  When they won their first race on Saturday you could not contain their excitement, well done ladies & sweep “Taj”.

Our next outing will be this weekend at Mooloolaba.  The three crews will be joined by the 200+ masters crew with Richard Finney, Julius Czerney, Jason Smith, John McCarthey & Brett Beutel (sweep).

There is a rumour that some younger U19 years girls are keen to have a row.  Let’s see where this takes us.
That is it for another week.  Take care & be vigilant.
